What is Delta 9 THC?
Delta 9 THC, or Delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol, is extracted from compliant industrial hemp plants. It’s known for its potential therapeutic effects, such as pain relief, appetite stimulation, and nausea reduction, but it also causes cognitive and perceptual changes (psychoactivity). This form is often referred to as Hemp THC or simply D9 THC.
The legality of hemp-derived delta 9 products is determined by federal and state regulations. According to the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp and its derivatives are federally legal in the United States, provided they contain no more than 0.3% Delta 9 THC by dry weight. This regulation currently allows the legal production and sale of products containing D9 that meet this concentration limit.

Nano Delta 9 refers to Delta 9 THC that has been further processed using nanoemulsion technology. This process breaks down the THC oil into microscopic particles, creating a stable nanoemulsion of THC. These smaller particles have a larger surface area, which allows them to be more easily absorbed by the body, enabling product formulators to produce highly effective delta 9 or THC consumer products with less material, thereby lowering material costs.
 
Red Mesa’s Water Soluble Delta 9 is produced from our hemp-derived delta 9 isolate into a highly concentrated, liquid tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) raw material designed for effortless blending with aqueous products, such as beverages and water-based edibles. Water Soluble Delta 9 disperses instantly and evenly in solution, avoiding an oily layer, sedimentation or clumping.
The manufacturing process starts with high-purity D9 THC isolate or distillate. The Hemp-derived THC undergoes a specialized process known as nanoemulsification, reducing the THC molecules into a microscopic size. Surfactants are used to surround the molecules, transforming them into tasteless nano THC with improved stability and the ability to remain evenly suspended in liquid without separating.
Integrating Water Soluble Delta 9 THC into product formulations brings significant advantages for manufacturers and consumers. The primary benefit is stability, with the D9 raw ingredient remaininghomogenously distributed and suspended in solution. Additionally, Nano Delta 9 provides enhanced bioavailability, more immediate onset (often within 10-20 minutes), consistent dose and a neutral flavor profile, making it optimal for water-based formulations without impairing the taste or aroma of the end product.
Bioavailability is the proportion of a substance that enters the bloodstream when it is introduced into the body. Traditional oil-based THC may have a bioavailability as low as 6-20%. On the other hand, Nano Delta 9, due to its nanoscale, significantly increases this rate by providing a larger surface area, enabling greater absorption. As a result, the end-user may achieve the desired effects with a lower dose of D9, ultimately lowering THC raw material acquisition costs.
 
With its increased and faster absorption rate, Nano THC provides a faster onset of effects, typically 10 to 20 minutes, in contrast to conventional THC oils, which can take 45 to 90 minutes. This rapid uptake is similar to alcohol consumption, making it highly desirable for the social beverage market.
Because the body more readily absorbs nanoemulsion Delta 9, the onset time is often faster than oil-based formats.  However, actual onset may vary depending on product formulation, dosage and an individual’s diet and metabolism.
The main difference is in solubility and absorption. Traditional oil-based D9 is hydrophobic (oil-loving) and must be processed by the liver before it becomes active, resulting in a delayed onset and lower absorption. In contrast, Water Soluble delta 9 is hydrophilic (water-loving) due to the surfactant encapsulation. This allows the Nano THC to enter the bloodstream more efficiently, often bypassing initial liver metabolism for a faster and more potent effect.
Hemp-derived delta 9 is extracted from cannabis sativa plants containing less than 0.3% THC on a dry weight basis (defined as industrial hemp). Marijuana-derived THC comes from plants exceeding this threshold. Our products exclusively utilize federally compliant Industrial Hemp THC.
